Don’t Wait

by: WKS on Tue, May 27 2008

My husband recently tried to quit smoking after smoking for over 30 years. He was a pack to 2 pack a day smoker.
He was a carpenter and a very strong man who could out work 3 men and lift much more than he should have.
Last Sunday evening he admitted to me that he had chest pain for 2 days. He insisted that it would go away and refused to go to the hospital.
Within one hour I was doing CPR on my best friend, my lover, my soul mate.
My husband died from a massive coronary event. He was blue from the neck up which probably indicates he had a ruptured pulmonary artery. There was nothing anyone could do for him.All if this from the effects of long term tobacco use.
My husband was 53 years old and left behind a 14 year old son who he will never see graduate from high school, college or see his grandchildren.
He left behind a grieving wife who is confused and angry and lost right now.
We will probably do alright, given some time to heal, but had he tried sooner to quit smoking, gone to the doctor more often for physicals maybe I wouldn’t be writing this today.
I urge any and all who smoke or are reluctant to get yearly physicals or reluctant to talk with your doctor’s about any aches or pains, DON’T WAIT, It could be too late!
